New vs. Open Box vs. Scratch & Dent
All three are 100% new, never owned, installed, or used in a home. The difference comes down to packaging and cosmetic condition, not quality. Here's what each one actually means.
Brand New (In-Box)
Comes factory-sealed in the original manufacturer packaging, exactly as it left the factory.
What to expect: Zero surprises, completely untouched since it left the factory floor. We can often beat big box pricing here too, so it's worth asking even if you want it factory-sealed.
Best for: Buyers who want zero cosmetic history at all, or need it to match an existing set exactly.
New Open Box
The manufacturer's box has been opened, often for a display model or inspection, but the appliance itself has never been installed or used.
What to expect: The same specs and warranty as brand new, at a lower price since the packaging isn't factory-sealed.
Best for: Buyers who want a full-price appliance without the full-price tag, and don't mind a slightly worn box.
New Scratch & Dent
A cosmetic imperfection, anywhere from a small scuff to a more noticeable dent, usually from shipping or handling, on an otherwise brand-new, unused appliance.
What to expect: We test and confirm every scratch & dent unit is fully working before it goes on the floor. The damage is always cosmetic only, never functional, but how noticeable it is can vary from unit to unit.
Best for: Budget-conscious buyers chasing the biggest discount, especially if the damage lands somewhere you won't see once it's installed.
